Mastopexy surgery commonly referred to as a breast lift removes and tightens excess skin to raise the breast. The nipple is repositioned onto the new breast shape to give a natural appearance. Mastopexy surgery is generally requested to improve the fullness and contour of the breasts without changing their size. It is common for women to request mastopexy surgery after having children as the increase in breast size stretches the skin causing the breast tissue to lose support and sag. This can also occur due to the aging process.
The results of mastopexy surgery are immediately visible, but it is important to remember that the swelling will take time to resolve, and the scars from such surgery will fade over time. The final result will be apparent several months after surgery as the position and contour of the breast settle following the surgery.
Mastopexy results are generally long-lasting, however, it is important to consider that your breasts may continue to change due to the aging process. Weight maintenance and lifestyle can also affect the longevity of your results.
